Workshop Highlights:
-You will learn about small and large scale methods of flax production, history of the plant and fiber production, and so much more!!
-We will work with processing portions of our 2025 ¼ acre plot of flax
-You will have the opportunity to process your own flax strick (bundle) using traditional methods and hand tools
-Demonstrations on spinning and other techniques will be shared
Our Flax Workshop series invites you to come along with us on a journey through the stages of Fiber Flax. These hands on learning opportunities will be led by over a decade of experience in small scale flax growing and an ever expanding knowledge of where the industry stands today, the history of flax and its uses, and the skills needed to transform this bast fiber plant into usable material.
Kidder and Tracy will share their knowledge on how you can grow your own flax and and show you how to process this plant. Each Workshop will highlight a different aspect of Flax Processing as we move through the season. Come Join the Flax Fiber Movement and learn all about this fantastic plant that humans have used for thousands of years!
During this last scheduled workshop of the season you can participate in the next steps of our 2025 flax processing. We have harvested our crop and now we move to preparing the plant stalks for fiber production through a biological process called retting. We will discuss the range of retting methods at different scales as well as go into a review of all the other steps along the way.
Kidder & Tracy will also share about their grant funded Flax research projects and their efforts in reviving the flax industry in North America.
Our Sliding Scale Options:
We offer three payment options: Recommended, Reduced and Restorative. Our Recommended option reflects what it takes to cover costs. The Reduced option is for community members who would not be able to attend events without an affordable option, while the Restorative option covers costs and supports greater event access.

Are supporting children or other dependents
Have immigration-related expenses
Have low or inconsistent income
Consider paying higher on the scale if you:
Own your home, have investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money
Travel recreationally, work part-time by choice, or have access to family money and resources
Have a relatively high degree of earning power due to your level of education, gender or racial privilege, and/or class background, even if you are not currently exercising your earning power
