To us there is nothing better than eating and sharing good food. It is an extra privilege when you get to take part in growing and nurturing that food. Growing food at any scale requires some thought and dedication. When we start scaling those food systems to feed larger communities that are relying on it, all the planning gets tightened up, mistakes are much riskier, and having the right skills and knowledge is indispensable. Farming for a living is often hard work requiring physical labor, long hours and the ability to just keep going even though it’s cold and wet outside but, it is also a privilege.
A farm is a farm is a farm… well not really…
Each farm often has similar goals but can operate extremely differently from one another. Every Farm will have unique systems to work within the individual needs, desires, resources, limitations, climate, etc... of the farm.
Farming is a physical skill and knowledge based job. It took us many years to get where we are today which included consistent trying, doing, failing, succeeding, listening, and reading but, most importantly: it took finding connection with other farmers (our predecessors and our peers). After a decade of farming WE STILL LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY. Farming requires consistency to show up, the flexibility to adapt, and creativity to problem solve. There is ALWAYS something that needs to be done and each year systems grow and change as needed.
Which piece of the puzzle are you…?
AS A VOLUNTEER, there are many things for you to do on the farm depending on your skill set. Examples include: moving mulch or compost, weeding vegetable beds, woodlot maintenance, or harvesting. More often than not we will be, right there with you, doing the same tasks. There are a wide variety of tasks. You do not need to be able to lift 60 lbs in order to be a volunteer but please let us know of any limitations or needs you may have a head of time.
Please fill out the sign up form below with your information to be added to our master list of volunteers. If you have specific days and times in mind let us know. By leaving your email in the form below you will be signed up to receive emails about special volunteer days and any other emails the farm sends out; don’t worry, they are fairly far and few between. We aim to send out emails only to highlight the big moments. Additionally, if you leave your phone number we will assume it is okay for us to call or text you about volunteering.
Thank you for your interest in farming.
The Farm supports the Community, the Community supports the Farm.
